Carrying the dawn of the new year, on January 10, 2020, the technicians of the plasma department of Fermion Instruments once again delivered good news. On the MBE-STM-ARPES ultra-high vacuum complex system of the team of Academician Xue Qikun of Tsinghua University, they successfully completed the upgrade and installation of the independently developed BL1200s vacuum ultraviolet light source, successfully replacing the original Scienta VUV5k vacuum ultraviolet light source.
The upgraded BL1200s vacuum ultraviolet light source can use a variety of working gases such as He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe, covering the spectral range of 8.4eV-40.8eV (147.6nm-30.4nm). At the main cavity sample, the ultraviolet light flux of HeI (21.2eV) is greater than 1012photonsc, and the spot size is about 0.8 mm. Compared with the Scienta VUV5k light source, the BL1200s light source is compact and easy to operate. Under the condition of using 1/3 of the power of the original system, the vacuum increment of the main cavity is only 1/3 of that before the upgrade, but the ultraviolet light flux of HeI (21.2eV) has reached 3 times that before the upgrade. For this system upgrade, the plasma department completed the production and delivery within one month, and completed the disassembly of the old system and the installation and optimization of the new system within 3 days, which gave new vitality to the old system worth tens of millions of yuan, ensured the continuous and uninterrupted important experimental research, and helped China's cutting-edge scientific research.
